"The National Council for Geocosmic Research, Inc., (NCGR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising the standards of astrological education and research. Though it began as "national," NCGR's current membership of about 2500 includes a growing number of international members. The organization's activities include sponsoring local Chapters (currently 42 located in 26 states and 4 countries). " http://www.geocosmic.org/ |

"In scientific circles where solar flares, magnetic storms and other unique solar events are discussed, the occurrences of September 1-2, 1859, are the star stuff of legend. Even 144 years ago, many of Earth's inhabitants realized something momentous had just occurred. Within hours, telegraph wires in both the United States and Europe spontaneously shorted out... "The introduction of the barycenter into astrology goes back to the excellent German researcher Dr. Theodor Landscheidt, who unfortunately died in 2004. To my knowledge Landscheidt was the only astrologer who published in physics and meteorology magazines and he made astonishing weather forecasts at meteorology congresses. Landscheidt alone has done more for the progress of astrology than 1,000 mainstream (= psychological) astrologers, (almost) none of them doing research that's fulfilling at least the basic standards. The methodological standard of astrology is usually restricted to case histories and questionable speculations, so the formation of new theories normally means that an astrologer has observed something a couple of times, publishes a thick book on that which is quoted by others with and without giving credit, and over night a new astrological dogma is born… It's no surprise that the ground-breaking and statistically very well backed insights of Landscheidt are barely accepted by the astrological community since he clearly showed up the weaknesses (and often the utter absurdity) of today's astrological mainstream. He also made constructive neo-astrological suggestions that are not based on nebulous speculations but on critical science. More on Landscheidt on http://landscheidt.auditblogs.com/?page_id=8 and http://landscheidt.auditblogs.com/papers-by-dr-theodor-landscheidt. As Peter Fraiss, the "boss" of the Austrian astrologers (head of the astrology trade association of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber) said in the last meeting in September 2007: astrologers often accusing scientists of their narrow-mindedness is a sign that the astrologers themselves are closed minded (the famous 'shadow' in Jung's terminology)… " [This message has been edited by Tyren (edited 09-01-2008).] |

"Varsler utbrudd Solforskerne klarer ikke å forutsi nøyaktig når en ny storm oppstår, men utbruddene registreres umiddelbart. - Da kan vi varsle dem som er mest utsatt for effektene av solstormene, forteller Brekke. Hvor sterk blir syklusen? Andre teknikker tyder på det motsatte. - Så vi står med to anslag og kan bare avvente og se hva fremtiden bringer, skriver Brekke |

"Partitions of 178.8-year intervals between instances of retrograde motion in the Sun’s oscillation about the center of mass of the solar system seem to provide synchronization points for the timing of minima and maxima in the 11 -year sunspot cycle. In the investigated period 1632-1990, the statistical significance of the relationship goes beyond the level P = 0.001. The extrapolation of the observed pattern points to sunspot maxima around 2000.6 and 2011.8. If a further connection with long-range variations in sunspot intensity proves reliable, four to five weak sunspot cycles (R < 80) are to be expected after cycle 23 with medium strength (R ~ 100). The part I bolded is a most interesting prediction of upcoming solar activity. As we have not yet reached solar minimum, and no high latitude cycle 24 spots have yet appeared, we may still be 12 to 18 months from minimum if recent cycles are anything to go by, and I venture a speculation that if no cycle 24 spots appear in the very near future then perhaps Dr Landscheidt should have also mentioned the other possible date of the upcoming solar max using his methods, 2013.6 (see details of his methods in the paper), which if it turns out to be true means a very long cycle which could indicate a very low sunspot max. |

"Through the years, there have been many references made to astrology and its influence on the stock market. One of the most famous came from one of the most famous men in all of investing, whose name still appears on two of the finest financial institutions in the world. That man was John Pierpoint Morgan (JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley). One of JP Morgan's most famous quotes was that millionaires do not use astrology in the stock market; billionaires do. ... The JP Morgan home has been converted into a beautiful museum just north of Rockefeller Center in NYC. In it, Morgan's library, a work of art in itself, has a ceiling featuring a hand-painted celestial reproduction of the heavens with a secret passage into the library from the living quarters, located directly above JP’s birth sign. "Scientists at the University of California grew barley, oats lettuce and peas in an atmosphere drastically reduced in ionization and found that growth was stunted and the plants diseased. When the experiment was repeated in air carrying more than double the normal number of negative ions, it produced accelerated growth.
In Russia, scientists tried to raise small animals - mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits - in air with no ions at all. They all died within a few days.
Dr Felix Sulman, head of the Applied Pharmacology department at Jerusalem University, conducted experiments with positive and negative ions on a cross-section of people. (his subjects were two groups of men and women between twenty and sixty-five) When left for about an hour in a room that contained an overdose of positive ions they became irritable and fatigued. Yet the same people confined for the same period of time, in air containing an overdose of negative ions, showed a pattern of brainwaves that suggested increased alertness and relaxation. He tested their alertness and work capacity by various means. All of them scored significantly higher, during and immediately after, their exposure to increased levels of negative ions.
Dr Sulman also undertook a study of "weather sensitive" volunteers and showed that, during the time of the Sharav winds, their bodies would produce up to ten times their normal level of serotonin - a hormone associated with stress. He found that, in effect, they were being poisoned by their own serotonin, causing migraines, hot flushes, irritability, pains around the heart, difficulty in breathing and a worsening of bronchial complaints, anxiety and irrational tension. Also a slowing of reactions was observed. Interestingly, it was discovered that in many people, the body's initial response to positive ions is to produce adrenaline and noradrenaline - the "fight or flight" hormones - which produces short-term euphoria but eventually leads to a condition of exhaustion. (It is this condition that is thought to affect insects and animals into restless activity as the positive ions build up before a storm.) The research also showed that exposure to positive ions can trigger an over-production of histamine, which most people will immediately recognise as the body chemical that aggravates allergies. Statistically it was found that 25% of the population are quite strongly affected by levels of ions in the air. Of the remainder, 50% are affected considerably, although 25% do not appear sensitive at all. -- http://www.djclarke.co.uk/file06.html#scientific%20studies |

"Here is what the NewScientist article says: "Many animals can sense the Earth's magnetic field, so why not people, asks Oleg Shumilov of the Institute of North Industrial Ecology Problems in Russia. Shumilov looked at activity in the Earth's geomagnetic field from 1948 to 1997 and found that it grouped into three seasonal peaks every year: one from March to May, another in July and the last in October. Surprisingly, he also found that the geomagnetism peaks matched up with peaks in the number of mood disorders i.e. depression, anxiety, bi-polar (mood swings)..." -- http://earthchangesmedia.com/publish/article-9162523562.php |

"One of the strongest correlations I have observed is that sports champions tend to be born when the planet Mars is either rising or culminating in the sky much more often than it does for ordinary people (see Figure 1). This particular observation, later called "the Mars effect" by researchers who have investigated it, has been verified by the experiments of other scientists." -- http://www.cyclesresearchinstitute.org/gauquelin/mars_effect.html |
